Google My Business is a ‘Yellow Pages’ listing for your company.
It’s a free service offered by Google to provide people searching for a business a listing on the sidebar of the search results page. Listing a business here is especially important for those with a physical location.
Signup is free, and is really fast
To setup your Google My Business listing, simply visit the start page and click ‘Manage Now’ at the top of the page. You’ll need to have at least a free Google account to login.
Once logged in, the page will show something like this:
Simply start entering the information and continue on.
Take note that Google needs a physical address (not a PO Box) and a website in order to move forward. It’ll ask a few more questions concluding with some verification steps.
Google will send a final verification code via snail mail to the address provided. Once the verification process is complete, the business is listed and you will have access to the Google My Business dashboard.
Add Some Photos, a logo, and business details
This is the fun step: making it all look good. Once logged in, editing the business details couldn’t be easier.
Under the ‘Info’ tab is where all the details are entered. Everything from address, to hours, to contact info. Special hours can even be added for holiday closures.
That’s it! Once all the info is in, the business listing card will start showing up when people search the name.
Depending on other SEO, this could also greatly improve listings for local searches (e.g. “restaurants near me”).
Another tip is to ask customers to write reviews. Google will show ratings and links to reviews right on the listing. Many 5-star reviews often will be a reason someone will explore one business over another.
To conclude, Google My Business listings are a no-brainer for any business. Along with a well-performing website, search engine optimization and a cohesive brand, a business listing with Google can greatly improve page ranking.
Showing up in search engine results couldn’t be more important these days. Be sure to give your business a boost with a Google My Business listing.
